17. Admiralty 1343/13 and my 1315/14 situation
reports for shipping firms now as follows. Swatow. Preparation
for blocking Eastern Channel. Safe for shipping but slow
handling of cargoes. British Warship in port. Foochow.
Ships cannot proceed beyond Sharp Peak.
entrance to Channel have been removed.

Safe for shipping at present.
Port, H.M. Ship present Amoy.
Occasional bombardments. H.M. Ship at present at Port
Canton if no night traffic on river. Pilotage scheme now
introduced by day. Canton being subjected to more frequent
air raids. No change for other ports in C. in C's.
