I took shelter

From my position I could see the South

side and front of the Wing Yeung Company and had a good view of

in the valley.

Whilst running to this place

of shelter I heard several explosions at the foot of the hills

the Wing Yeung Company. The firing contin ued until the Cruiser

was beached and stopped after she grounded All her crew

jumped overboard and waded ashore. I did not see a European

among them.

I saw a mark on the starboard bow of the Cruiser

a whistle blown twice. They then came alongside the starboærd

quarter of the Cruiser and 2 men in khaki boarded her. They

walked round the Cruiser and then called the remainder of their

men aboard. A man dressed in blue uniform lowered the Chinese

flag and hoisted a Japanese one in its place. I saw them

removing what appeared to be rifles, boxes and other equipment into one of the motor boats, which, when loaded put off back to the destroyer. The destroyer did appear to have come closer,
