Telegram from the Governor of Hong Kong to the Secretary of
State for the Colonies
Dated 3rd December, 1937. Received at 1.35 pm. 3rd December.
No.304 Your telegram No.257 confidential. 1st December
Japanese Consul General called on Colonial Secretary and
gave the names of three Chinese stevedores who had received
threatening letter(s) urging them to cease working the Japanese steamers in Hong Kong. He was immediately referred to the Police in the ordinary course. Letter(s)
purported to come from local patriotic society but no
address was given and the society has not yet been traced.
Apart from promise to investigate the matter no communication whatever was made either by Colonial Secretary or by the
Inspector General of Felice. Political activities of
visiting Chinese leaders were not mentioned by either side nor
have they been the subject of any discussions with tha
Government.
