As regards the Police, the

to

present time-scale runs right through 400 £1300

without a promotion bar. The new scale has a

promotion bar at £910 which divides the staff

into two separate grades. If it is the intention

that the existing staff should immediately be

organised into two grades irrespective of salary,

I presume that an officer, allocated to the lower

broild

grade, on promotion to a post in the higher grade

van receive no special increase in pay but would

go on progressing up the old time-scale in the

ordinary manner. If, however, his salary on the

the

old scale prior to promotion is less than he

mitial salary applicare under the new arra to the night grows viškazo The Apes might be prepared (and he should be given the option)

te

of accept the appointment to the higher-grade

on the new scale, with the immediate increase in

emoluments which it would provide.
