56 END

The Board consider that any of these three candidates

would be suitable for the appointment.

They would recommend

Mr.Nicol as their first choice in view of the experience which

he has had of educational work in the East. All three

candidates would, at present, be inclined to regard the appoint-

ment in Hong Kong as a temporary one, and the Board would be

willing to second any one of them for the post for a period,

in the first instance, of three or five years.

The Board assume that the Director of Recruitment will now

wish to interview these candidates and that he will communicate

with them direct.

I am, Sir,

Your obedient Servant,

WRR.chardson

The Director of Recruitment,

(Colonial Service)

Colonial Office,

Richmond Terrace,

Whitehall,S.W.1.
