A silver trowel with carved ivory handle inscribed on
the blade with the following words:-
"This trowel used on laying the first stone of a
Masonic Hall for the Zetland Lodge at Victoria, Hong
Kong, on the 1st of February, 1853, was presented by the
Brethren to Charles St. George Cleverly, Surveyor-General,
by whom the building was designed. "
Round the blade also are inscribed Masonic
symbols. On the ivory handle the names of the chief
officers of the Louge and a representation of the laying
of the foundation stone and of the completed building are
inscribed.
Cleverly has told us that he would like to
present these two trowels to the authorities concerned,
and he asks whether it could be ascertained informally
if such presentation would be acceptable to them. He
presumes that the offer should be addressed in due
course to the Dean and Chapter of the Cathedral, and
