Dear Cleverly,
The inscriptions on the two trowels are
as follows:
(1) "This trowel used on laying the first stone of
"a l'asonic Hall for the Zetland Lodge at Victoria,
"Hong Kong, on the 1st of February, 1853, was presented
"by the Brethren to Chas. St. Geo. Cleverly, Surveyor "General. by whom the building was designed."
(2) "Presented by Sir J.F. Davis, Bt., Governor and
"Commander-in-Chief of Hong Kong, ller Kajesty's
"Plenipotentiary and Chief Superintendant of the trade
"of British subjects in China, to Chas. St. Geo
"Cleverly, Esqr., Surveyor General, on the occasion of
"laying the foundation stone of the Church of St. John
