Vacations.
Duties.
Note.-First-class passages are in all the above cases also provided for wives, and child- ren under the age of 16.
A first-class passage is limited to actual cost of a first-class passage to des- tination, but in no case exceeding the ordinary first-class P. & O. mail steamer passage to London via Suez.
Members of the academic staff are entitled to the usual University vacation subject to obliga- tions which are referred to under the heading "Duties." Members of the staff who desire to travel during vacations should in all cases notify the Vice-Chancellor, in writing, when leaving the Colony for a period of more than seven days.
In addition to the normal duties of the ap- pointment, a member of the staff is required to take part in the University internal examinations without payment. He may also be required to take part in the Matriculation and School Exami- nations conducted by the University in this case payment will be made in accordance with a scale fixed by the Council.
Owing to the difficulty of replacing members of the staff absent on long leave, members of the staff in service are required to assist in any reason- able way in carrying on the teaching work of the University, and may in this connection be required from time to time to deliver lectures on subjects of which they have a sufficient know- ledge but which are outside the work for which they are primarily engaged. The Council considered the question of the payment of expenses incurred by members of the staff while on leave in England in respect of work done of their own accord on behalf of, or in the interest of, the University.
It was decided to adopt the general principle that claims for expenses would not, in future, be entertained unless they had been specifically sanctioned by the Council and the Finance Committee before the charges were actually incurred.
