University, the development of University teaching along many new lines and the problems frequently arising out of the University's
lations with the Burma legislative. Partly owing to the fact that the Vice-Chancellor was a part-time (honorary) officer and not an educationalist, partly to the fact that Mr. Sloss was Principal of by far the larger college, but chiefly owing to the fact that he was so obviously well fitted to bear it, the weight of University organisation and administration fell most heavily on his shoulders. I always wondered at the strength of mind and body that enabled him to serve with such conspicuous success in so many different capacities.
His stature is perhaps shown best by the fact that in spite of his multifarious duties, he continued to share in the work of the English department. He was truly magnanimous •
I have tried to show how Mr. Sloss impressed me during our association in University work. He won his leading position by breadth of mind, by organising power, by resolute purpose, by wisdom in debate and conference so that others came to listen for his voice. I think that by reason of his attainments, his character and his experience, he is eminently fitted to serve the University of Hong Kong as its Vice-Chancellor.
