Gentlemen,

I am directed to acknowledge receipt of your

letter No.M/5606 dated 11th of April, 1938, regarding the

selection of a Quantity Surveyor for the Public Works

Department, Hong Kong, and to inform you that there is no

objection to the initial salary offered being raised to

£550 representing three increments over the minimum of

the scale, to the higher age limit being raised to thirty-

five and to the selection of a married candidate.

I am to add that the re-appointment of Mr.

F.J. Ling to this post is not considered desirable.
