With reference to your letter No. 53685/37 of

2 the 13th July last, forwarding a copy of a draft Bill

relating to the Hong Kong Naval Volunteer Defence Force

which it is proposed to introduce in the Legislative

Council, I am commanded by My Lords Commissioners of

the Admiralty to acquaint you, for the information of

the Secretary of State for the Colonies that, as the

Naval Discipline Act without modification or amendment

will apply to all members of the force who are offered

to and accepted by the Admiralty for general service

in the Royal Navy in emergency, the draft Bill and

Schedule can, in their opinion, be accepted.

My Lords anticipate that those members of the

force who join otherwise than on the express terms

of accepting general service in the Royal Navy in emergency"

will not be offered to the Admiralty.
