With reference to your letter No. 53654/37, dated Y 2.10th May, 1937, regarding the provision of permanent
accommodation for the garrison of Hong Kong, I am commanded by the Army Council to state, for the information of Mr. Secretary Ormsby Gore, that they concur in the stipulation mentioned in paragraph 2 of your letter concerning the Sham Shui Po area, that the Council shall be liable for the payment of rent for that site at the rate of $125,000 a year, or such other figure as may then be appropriate, if the area remains in the occupation of the military authorities after 31st December, 1940.

As the Secretary of State for the Colonies and the Council are now in agreement, it is presumed that approval will be conveyed to the Governor for the agreement reached
and I am locally between the Civil and military authorities; to request that you will be so good as to have a copy sent to this Office in order that the General Officer Commanding may be informed.
I am to take this opportunity of expressing the gratification of the Army Council that this question has been settled in so satisfactory a manner.
