65.-Miscellaneous, $2,000.-This vote is available for all Departments

and provides funds for minor works which arise during the year

but are considered too small for a separate vote.

66.—Water Works, $5,000.-Provides for small extensions to subsidiary

water mains and other miscellaneous minor works.

67.-Port Works, $500.-Expenditure necessary in connection with preliminary investigations for proposed harbour works, foreshore dumping, etc.

COMMUNICATIONS.

68. Tai l'o Road, 3rd-5th Mile Improvements, $500.-To complete this

contract.

69.-Customs Pass Road Widening, $10,000.-To complete this contract, which covers the widening and improvement of the lower section of the existing road so as to permit to take modern traffic.

70. Castle Peak Road-Improvement between Kom Taun Street and Lai Chi Kok Pass, $10,000.--The existing road is insufficiently strong to take modern traffic.

MISCELLANEOUS.

71.-Chinese Cemeteries-Laying out new areas, $2,000. To make good

existing burial areas after exhumation.

72.-Aerodrome-Runway, $40,000.-To cover half the cost of a runway which is to be constructed by the Works and Buildings section of the R.A.F. at Kai Tak. The other half of the cost is being found by the Air Ministry.

73.-Recreation Grounds, $20,000. To continue the new Recreation Ground development to the west of the Polo Ground at Boundary Street.

74.-Repairs to Sea Wall and Road at Lai Chi Kok, $45,000.-To complete the work of reinstatement after typhoon damage to this sea wall and road which was caused by the typhoon of 1936. The work was commenced this year.

75.-New Kowloon Cemetery No. 7, $20,000.-To permit of the formation of a further section of this cemetery. Expenditure will be principally on the formation of burial spaces, access paths and storm water channels. Work on this cemetery was commenced this year.

76.-Street Name Plates, $1,000.-To cover the expenditure required for

the provision of new name plates.

WATER WORKS.

Sub-head 77.-Back Lane Service Pipes, $5,000.-To provide for the extension of subsidiary service pipes in back lanes in newly developed areas to obviate the excessive cutting of roads which would be necessary for direct connection to principal mains. These subsidiary mains eventually paid for by house owners when connections are requested.

78.-Kun Tong-Refuse Dump, $10,000.-To provide for an extension of the rubble mound and sea wall to retain the Colony's refuse which is disposed of by depositing in a controlled dump at Kung Tong.

BUILDINGS ORDINANCE.

79.-Compensation and Resumptions, $5,000.-This vote covers expendi- ture incurred in the acquisition of buildings and land necessitated by Town Planning Improvement.

ANTI-MALARIAL WORKS.

80.-Anti-malarial works, $7,000.-This vote is for anti-malarial work in New Kowloon It provides for the training of stream courses, and draining of swamp to prevent the breeidng of mosquitoes.

86.-Tsun Wan Market Road, $8,000.-To complete this contract under which a short access to the market was provided and to make good adjoining roads.

87-Ha Tsuen Road, $22,000.-To provide motor access to Ha Tsuen and the surrounding area. This sum was provided under last year's Budget but no work was carried out.
