necessary by the arrangement made recently
with the China Bus Company for the transport
of Warders' children to school, and also by
the necessity of paving travelling expenses
for such Gaol employecc as compositors and
lino-operators.
(ii) Owing to the unforeseen necessity of
keeping Victoria Gaol open during 1937 it has
been necessary to postpone leave due this year
to members of the Indian Prison Staff. Some
relief is necessary if these officers and those
who are due for leave in 1930 are to be allowed
to take the leave they have carmed, and it is
proposed therefore to recruit forthwith 20 Indian
Guards. This renders it necessary to increase
the provision or $25,50 for 78 Guards on page 56, to $30.784 for 98 Guards, and similarly to alter
Sub-head 1, Personal Smoluments, on page 54.
These additional men will be absorbed in due
course as vacancies occur, and the increase in
the establishment will not be permanent.
(a) Head 25 Shcation Department.
When preparing the Batinates for this department, the fact that the one Master shown on the new (so-called
African) salary scale on page 76 was eligible for a
Residential Allowance of 650 per annum was overlooked.
The omission will be rectified and the necessary amendment
made to Sub-head 1, Personal Emoluments on page 75.
3. The total increase in the Betinate of Expenditure
