Enclosure No. 3.
REPORT ON MISS I.M.BLANCHETT BY THE ACTING DIRECTOR
OF EDUCATION.
26
Miss Blanchett, who will be 26 years old in
November, 1937, is at present teaching in St. Stephen's
Girls' College, Hong Kong, and Mr. Ralston, I.E.S., reports
favourably on her work there.
Miss Blanchett's father, Rev. C. I. Blanchett,
was well known and highly esteemed in South China: her
mother is at present in charge of the Girls' Department of
the Taipo Rural Orphanage. Miss Blanchett has been employed
in St. Stephen's Girls' School since 1933 and will proceed
to England as soon as that school closes for the summer
vacation. She will therefore be available for an interview
in London, if such is desired, after mid-August.
Miss Blanchett is a B. Sc. of London University
and has specialised in Biology (Botany and Zoology).
Biology is becoming an ever more important subject in
School Curricula, and as we have practically no one fully
qualified to teach Biology up to Matriculation Standard
I am of the opinion that Miss Blanchett would be a decided
acquisition to our department.
Miss Blanchett has in her favour a very useful
degree, excellent references, knowledge of local
educational conditions and a good report from our
Inspector of English Schools, and I have no hesitation
in recommending her for the post for which she is applying.
(sd) W. Kay
Director of Education.
