Sir,

With reference to Mr. Cowell's letter

53519/3/37 of the 20th August 1937, I am directed to

state that the Colonial Appointments Selection

Committee, at their meeting on the 14th instant, decided

to recommend Miss Elsie Mary Parkes for appointment as

Graduate Assistant Mistress in the Hong Kong Education

Department, with Miss Margaret Eveline King as reserve

candidate.

Miss Parkes is in contributory service. She

would, it is understood, be unable to leave for Hong Kong

before the end of the term at the earliest.

Miss King is not in contributory service and

would be free to leave for Hong Kong as soon as required.

The Under-Secretary of State,

Colonial Office,
