I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your Confidential despatch of 17th June, 1937, on the subject of return passages for officer whose appointments are not confirmed at the end of their probationary period, and to inform you that I have noted the terms of your reply to the enquiry in question.

This is in conformity with the

established custom of this Government except that in practice the contribution from such officers towards passage has generally been waived.
