repayment of Crown rent would be made to the
Air Ministry. My information is not clear
as to whether a similar repayment would be
made in respect of the original costs of
resumption of the land or the costs of
formation. I should be glad to receive
information on the point, and, further, an
explanation in some detail of the nature
and constituents of the 'resumption'
charges which have been incurred in the
recent cases of the sites required by the
Air Ministry.

It will, of course, be agreed that
the basis on which sites are made available
for the defence requirements of the Royal
Air Force in Hong Kong should be settled on
terms which are fair both to the Defence
service and to the Crown as represented by
the Government of Hong Kong. But I believe
that you and your advisers will also agree
that it will give the greatest satisfaction
to all parties in the long run if those
