(d) A temporary structure the owner of which has
accepted $25 compensation, but which is still
occupied owing to the tenant, the mother of the
owner, refusing to leave. The owner has since
disappeared and cannot be found.
In the concluding paragraph of his telegram 13- No. 135 of the 7th May, 1937, to the Foreign Office Sir
Hughe Knatchbull-Rugessen expressed the opinion that proceedings for eviction might reasonably be taken after
the Coronation, but suggested that in view of the likelihood of friction with Canton, your instructions should first
Cal
be obtained. For this reason I have taken no action on
your telegram No.80 of the 15th April, 1937.
3.
I now propose, subject to your concurrence, to
take steps for the eviction of the few remaining
recalcitrants.
I do not propose to withdraw the offers
of compensation already made but to leave it open to the
occupiers to apply for this even after eviction.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient, humble servant,
N.L. Sunt
Officer Administering the Government.
