Sir,

GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

HONG KONG.

23rd June, 1937.

With reference to my telegram No.83 of the

4th May, 1937, on the subject of the Evacuation of

Kowloon City, I have the honour to inform you that

of the buildings which it is desired to remove only

four now remain.

(a) A small stone house on land formerly held under

a lease which has now expired. The owner has

been offered his choice of a house already

built by the Public Works Department or a site

with monetary compensation. He has refused

both offers.

(b) Three wooden huts erected partly on Crown Land

partly on land formerly let under annual permit.

The owner has been offered a site outside the

walls and a sum of $50, sufficient to pay for

the removal of the structures.

(c) A small stone house on land formerly held by

one permittee on two annual permits. This

building has been illegally erected since the

terms of the permits prohibit the construction

on the site of any permanent structure. For

this reason the offer made to the occupier

(an alternative site and $25 compensation)

takes no account of the fact that the building

is of stone and not of wood.
