24TH OCTOBER.
As up to the present no reports in writing on the
above have yet been received by this office from our Ängineer
of ways & works, I beg to confirm the damage done to the
kailway by enemy planes between 22nd and 24th, as already
reported to you by various telegrams:-

83 ND OCTOB ki Km, 101 - 108
4 Enemy planes raided this area at about 10.45 hours.
1 Bomb was dropped onto the right-hand side of the track at
Km. 101/1, causing a big hole on the embankment, which required
2 M. 8. wagons of ruble to fill up, and damaging about 250 ft.
of track. One bomb was dropped on top of the cutting left of
Km. 101/6, with the result that 2 rails were badly damaged.
Telephone cable was cut.
bombs were also dropped on the
cutting at Km. 108/3 and 105/15; about 800 ft. of track was
covered up with earth.
Kepairs were immediately car ied out and completed
for train to pass at 20.00 hours the same day.

More than 20 bombs aimed at our Tung
and kas
River bridges were launched by 6 enemy planes at about 11.80
hours. The tracks in the yard and the Permanent Way Gang Hut
were badly damaged. All the telegraph wires and telephone
cables were destroyed.
The Engineering and Locomotive Staff
quarters and Magasine vere slightly damaged. No damage was
done to the main line track and bridgea.
