Enclosure No. 1.

Be it resolved

That this Court of the University of Hong Kong assembled today for the first time since the lamented demise of His late Most Gracious Majesty King George V, the beloved Patron of this our University, do here and now move the Governor of Hong Kong, our Chancellor, that His Excellency

will cause to be tendered to His Most Gracious Majesty King Edward VIII the humble duty and service of this

University and of all who teach or learn therein, together

with our most true profession of faithful loving devotion to His Throne and Person and of profound and sorrowful

sympathy with all the Royal Family in their

affliction and bereavement.

And whereas His late Majesty King George V did, at the humble petition of our first Chancellor Lord Lugard,

consent and condescend to become the Patron of this

University now therefore are we bold to pray that His Majesty King Edward VIII may in like manner be graciously pleased to bestow upon it His Royal Personal Patronage, whereunto we are further emboldened by His gracious acceptance during His

visit to this Colony in 1922 of the Degree of Doctor of Laws,

Honoris Causa, in this University.

This our prayer and petition we commend to the Governor,

Chancellor, for humble and dutiful submission by His Excellency through the Right Honourable His Majesty's

Principal Secretary of State for the Colonies: and be it

resolved accordingly.
