doubtless substituted in view of its greater comprehensibility
and dignity in Chinese ears. Clause (2) of the section has
long since sunk into disuse and oblivion; Chang Jen-chun is
deceased and the Governor's recognized position in the
University is that of Chancellor only. If you should consider
it advisable the law can be amended but, as it has been so
long ignored and forgotten, I see no necessity for legislative
action. The only Patronage that the University has ever
professed is the Royal Patronage, and it is for a continuance
of this that its Court now humbly petitions.
