Sir,
I am commanded by My Lords Commissioners
of the Admiralty to state, for the information of the
Secretary of State for the Colonies, that now that
Admiralty House, the official residence of the
Commander-in-Chief, China, has been established ashore
at Hong Kong, they have had under consideration the
question of the payment of customs duties on alcoholic
liquors transferred from the Flagship to Admiralty House.
At present the Commander-in-Chief is
paying duty at the rates laid down in the Resolution
past by the Legislative Council of Hong Kong on the 22nd
April, 1936. At Bermuda, Malta and Trincomalee however,
where the official residence of the Commander-in-Chief
of the Station is situated ashore on Colonial territory,
pause! ordinances have been past exempting such importations,
for the use of the Commander-in-Chief when residing there
from the payment of Customs duties.
