Every water-sealed gasholder used for the storage of

gas shall be of sound construction and maintained in good

repair and in good working order.

Every water-sealed gasholder shall be thoroughly examined

externally by a competent person not less frequently than

once in every two years. A report of the result of every

such examination containing the prescribed particulars shall,

within twenty-eight days from the date of the examination, be

entered in or attached to the General Register. Every such

report shall be signed by the person making the examination.

Every water-sealed gasholder of which any lift has been

in use more than twenty years shall be adequately examined by

a competent person as to the internal state of the sheeting, by

cutting samples from the gasholder crown and sides or by other

sufficient means. A report on the result of the examination

signed by the competent person shall be entered in or attached

to the General Register, and all such samples cut from gasholders

shall be kept available for examination.

The following further requirements shall apply to all

examinations of internal surfaces of gasholders.

Where no internal corrosion, wasting or substantial

defect is found, further adequate examinations of the

internal surfaces shall be made at intervals, not exceeding

10 years, and

Where any internal corrosion, wasting or substantial

defect is found, the report shall specify whether any, and

if so what, replacements or repairs are necessary and the

period within which they must be carried out. After the
