Visit of R. A. F. Singapore Flying Boat to Canton.

On September 24th one R. A. F. Flying boat

belonging to the R. A. F. base at Singapore visited Canton for the purpose of enabling Air Commodore Sydney Smith,

who was accompanied by Group Captain A. H. Peck, Senior

Air Staff Officer, Singapore, and Group Captain R. P. Willock, Air Attaché, to pay a courtesy call on Marshal

Chiang Kai Shek.

The flying boat alighted at Whampoa at 10.00 a.m.

when Air Commodore Sydney Smith and his officers were met

by H. M. Consul-General, by General Chen Ching-yun,

Commandant of the Canton division of the China Air Force

and other Chinese officials at Canton and were then

introduced to the Generalissimo who gave the party a most

cordial reception.

An informal lunch was given in their honour by

General Chen at the Official Guest House at Tungshan and

at 3.00 p.m. the flying boat returned to Hong Kong having

first been inspected by General Chen and his staff.
