In the first twelve years of service and until the

officers appointed attain the rank of inspector, it is

assumed that they must live in Police barracks, and make their

own arrangements for housing elsewhere their wives and

children, if they marry. An inspector normally has charge

of a station where married quarters are provided. I

consider, therefore, that the above terms of service should

suffice to attract the type of officer required.

The scheme has received the approval of my

Executive Council and of the Finance Committee of the

Legislative Council; and it is now proposed, subject to

your approval, to proceed in September next with the engagement

of the first ten sub-inspectors on probation and on the terms

as recommended. In accordance with Colonial Regulation 267

I would request sanction for this engagement, and, in order

that the application of the scheme shall not be delayed, I

would ask that your sanction be conveyed by air mail.

Provision for twenty new Asiatic sub-inspectorships

will be made in the Estimates for 1937.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient, humble servant,

Aalders

Governor, &C.
