Bridges are all of standard design of Coopers E-50 loading.
All turntables are of 30 metres diameter. Each station is
provided with at least two loops with effective lengths of
450 metres. Sleepers, 16 to a rail length, are generally
Eucalypts from New Jouth sales or Jarrah from western
Australia. These are not adzed to seat the rail to a
slope in conformity with usual practice. Chinese Ministry
of Railways standards are adopted throughout.

27. Ample land provision has been made at Stations
for future development. Heng chow station and yard, as
befits its important position half way between the terminal
stations, has been designed on imposing lines. This has
presented no difficulty as the city lies on the other side
of the river. The station building, which is a reinforced
concrete structure of two stories, a basement and a roof
garden, is 168 feet in length by 57 feet in width.
are 16 staff bungalows at present occupied by the senior
construction staff which are intended to house the future
operative staff. These bungalows have been laid out in
"model village" plan and have modern sanitation. Fire
places are provided in each room. The whole station is
lit with electric light from plant owed by the Railway.
The high type platform is 300 metres long and there are
to be Locomotive and Carriage sheds and the necessary
workshops. A wharf has been constructed near the
Construction Stores on the east bank of the Siang River
with the necessary rail connection.
28. A nursery for trees is maintained near Heng chow.
There will be half a million trees in this nursery at the
end of the year and three quarters of a million at the
end of next. From this nursery trees are being obtained
to plant along the railway at the rate of approximately
