6th February, 1936.

The Under Secretary of State

FOREIGN OFFICE,

S.W.1.

END

I have the honour to state that we have

recently placed an order with Federal Laboratories

Incorporated of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, U.S.A., through

their authorised distributors in this country, Messrs.

Civil Protection Ltd. of Sardinia House, Kingsway, for

four .45 calibre Thompson Submachine guns, model 21A,

required by the Police Department of the Hong Kong

Government.

2.

Federal Laboratories have made application to the United States' State Department at Washington

for the necessary licence to export these guns, but we are

advised that under the President of the United States'

Proclamation of the 25th September, 1935, it is also

necessary that their application should be supported by a

request from the British Embassy in Washington for the

issue of the licence. In the circumstances, I have the

honour to enquire whether representations can be made to

H.M. Ambassador at Washington to ma e the necessary

application to the United States' State Department.

3.

As shipment of the guns to Hong Kong is

required at the earliest possible date, it would be

appreciated if the matter can be treated as urgent.

I have etc.,

for CROWN AGENTS.
