stores and equipment.

My Lords are informed that to

the extent that a claim for repayment to Navy Votes

will lie against Army Votes for such of the stores as

may require replacement, the Army Council propose to

include their cost in the general cost of the garrison

of Hong Kong, though such inclusion would not at present

affect the military contribution of the Colony since the

limitation to 20% of the Colonial revenue is at present

operative.

My Lords assume that any practice ammunition

required will be paid for by the Colony since the personnel

will not be required to man or train on other equipment than

the naval guns in question.

In conclusion I am to observe that, as stated

in Treasury Letter quoted above, the fact that a Colonial

unit may man equipment which would otherwise have to be

manned by the Regular Troops cannot be accepted as an

absolute reason in all circumstances for foregoing the

raising
