YOUR PETITIONERS EARNESTLY PRAY that further
consideration may be given to the question whether the
levy should be inflicted upon their salaries and that
the levy be cancelled on the ground that they have
already suffered enough hardship through the increased
cost of living, that the margin for untoward contingencies
has generally disappeared, that with the prospect of
insolvency the temptation to borrow money will become
prevalent and that in all the circumstances the Govern-
ment be urged, if there be any need for economy in the
Colony's expenditure, to resort to measures other than
those which affect the income and livelihood of the
classes of Civil Servants which your Petitioners represent.
AND your Petitioners will ever pray etc.
