TEMPORARY LEVY ON SALARIES OF OFFICERS IN

THE HONG KONG GOVERNMENT SERVICE.

Owing to the present need to retrench public

expenditure in the Colony it has been necessary to

impose a temporary levy on the salaries of officers

in the Hong Kong Government Service with effect from

the 1st January, 1936.

Salaries expressed in sterling which do not

exceed £240 a year are free of levy.

The graduated rates of levy in other cases

on salaries expressed in sterling are as follows:-

On the first 2340

On the next £360

On the next £400

On the reimining portion of salary above £1,400

The levy is applied to net salaries after deductions

have been made for contributions to the Hong Kong

Widows' and Orphans' Pension Scheme.

Sterling salaries will for purposes of

payment in the Colony be converted, after deducting
