Peking telegram No.46 to Canton repeated to Foreign
Office as telegram No.580.
In an interview given to the Far Eastern Manager of
Reuters a few days ago at Canton Chiang Kai-shek stated
that it was his life-long ambition to promote a relation-
ship of true and lasting friendship between Great Britain
and China. Now more than at any previous time in history
of Sino-British relations this ambition was conditioned on
circumstances entirely favourable to its fulfilment.
