With reference to previous correspondence

terminating with my Secret despatch of 6th February, 1936, I have

Enclo.No.1. the honour to forward a copy of the Annual Report from the

Commandant of the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps for the year

ending 15th April, 1936, together with a copy of a letter dated

Enclo.No.2. 11th June, 1936, addressed to the Under Secretary of State, The

Rela

War Office, by His Excellency the General Officer Commanding.

With regard to the sixth paragraph of His

Excellency's letter, I have the honour to invite your attention

to my secret despatch of 4th May, 1936.

A copy of the report of the Commodore on the Hong

Kong Naval Volunteer Force for the year ending 31st March, 1936,

Enclo. No 3is forwarded herewith in accordance with the instruction contained

in Sir P. Cunliffe-Lister's (now Viscount Swinton) despatch No.37

of 29th January, 1935.

As regards the twenty-third paragraph of the

Commodore's report, I have recently, on the recommendation of the

Commodore, obtained the approval of my Executive Council and

Finance Committee for the appointment of a suitable retired Naval

officer for the post of Commander of the Naval Volunteer Force

and have requested him to approach the Admiral Commanding Reserves
