GENERAL WORKS.

40.--Roads. $30,000.-The vote will meet expenditure incurred on road surfacing, kerbing, channelling and the construction of footpaths in new areas under development. 41.-Drainage.—(a) Training Nullahs. $1,000.-This sum is required to meet the cost of training stream courses where this is necessary due to new development.

(b) Miscellaneous, $30,000.-Required to meet the cost of providing sewers and storm water drains for houses in newly developed areas.

42.-Miscellaneous, $5,000.-This vote is available for all Departments and provides funds for minor works which arise during the year but are considered too small for a separate vote.

43. Water Works.--(a) Meters, $22,000.—To provide for the supply of

meters throughout the year.

(b) Miscellaneous, $6,000.-Provides for small exten- sions to subsidiary water mains and other mis- cellaneous minor works.

44.-Port Works, $1,000.—Required for taking soundings, borings and preliminary investigations in connection with new and proposed harbour works, foreshore dumping, etc.

MISCELLANEOUS.

45.—Chinese Cemeteries, laying out new areas, $3,500.—To provide for

new burial areas in existing cemeteries.

46.-Chinese Cemeteries, Exhumation in Chinese Cemeteries, $1.000.-To provide for the removal of Chinese graves which may obstruci development.

47.-Street Name Plates. $2,000.—To cover the expenditure required for

the provision of new nameplates.

48.-Mong Kok Police Station, Rewiring, $1,800.-To replace the existing

wiring in this Police Station. This work is overdue.

WATER WORKS.

49.-Back Lane Service Pipes, $5,000-To provide for the extension of subsidiary service pipes in back lanes in newly developed properties to obviate the excessive cutting of roads which would be necessary for direct connection to principal mains. These subsidiary mains are eventually paid for by house owners when connections are requested.

50.-Distribution Mains, $5,000.—To provide for water mains in newly

developed areas.

BUILDINGS ORDINANCE.

51.-Compensation and Resumptions, $5,000.-For expenditure in the acquisition of buildings and land necessitated by Town Planning Improvement.

58.-Customs Pass Road Widening, $60,000.-To widen and improve the lower section of existing road so that it will be able to carry motor

traffic.

59.-Aerodrome, Runway, $40,000.-To cover half the cost of the runway which is being constructed by the Works and Buildings section of the R.A.F. at Kai Tak. The other half of the cost is being found by the Air Ministry.

60. Recreation Grounds, $25,000.—To provide for the development of a new recreation ground area to the West of the Polo (round at Boundary Street.

MISCELLANEOUS.

61.—Chinese Cemeteries, Laying out new areas, $2.000.-To provide new

burial areas in existing cemeteries.

62.-Chinese Cemeteries, Exhumation in Chinese Cemeteries, $1.000.-To provide for the removal of Chinese graves which may obstruct development.

63.-New C'emetery No. 7, $11,000.-To permit of the formation of a further section of this Cemetery. Expenditure will be principally on the formation of burial spaces, access paths and storm water channels. Work on this cemetery was commenced this year.

64.-Street Name Plates, $1,000.—To cover the expenditure required for

the provision of new nameplates.

65.-Kowloon City Police Station, Rewiring, $3,100.-To replace the existing

wiring in this Police Station. This work is overdue.
