Gentlemen,

I beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the

4th instant in connection with my application for a loan of

£100. and its refusal by the Colonial Office.

I am aware that pensions are paid as they become due,

but the same applies to pay and pay is occasionally given in

advance. I got an advance of pay from the Crown Agents for

the Colonies of £20. when I was returning to Hong Kong for duty

in October, 1910.

I dare say the record of that advance is

Is the Colonial Office aware that I have contributed

nearly £500. to the widows & Orphans' Pension Fund since 1907,

a Fund that is hardly ever likely to benefit any of my family.

Surely if there is no other way the money can be advanced from

this fund.

I have no other means of raising the money to satisfy

my creditor (National Bank, Galway), who holds all the papers

covering my property. The bill (£160) becomes due on the 7th

prox.

If I were advanced even £50. I would probably be able

to satisfy my creditor that I was making a genuine effort to pay

my debt, even if I could only pay a portion of it, and I would be

given time in which to pay the balance.

I earnestly appeal to the Colonial Office to accede
