My dear Ambassador,

Thank you for your letter of 11th October

1935, No. 18/68/1935. The present situation with

regard to co-operation by the Chinese Maritime Customs

in anti-piracy work is shown in the attached copies

of letters, which, as you will see are the result

of just such a discussion as you suggest.

I have directed the Commodore, Hong Kong,

and the Staff officer (Intelligence), Shanghai, to

take the steps necessary to embody the new

arrangement in the Naval organisation.

I must apologise for not having sent you

copies of these letters earlier.
