from that of the Arsenal removal; and informed him that in

view of His Excellency the Officer Administering the

Government's reply No.1456/1923 of the 20th March 1930 to

my letter No.H.K.351/7 of the 8th February 1930, the Trustees

recommended the acceptance of the offer from the Hongkong Government of a site of equal area to the present one and a sum of $154,090 as compensation for the present Canteen

buildings.

In this connection it is observed that the total

sum required for the construction of the new Canteen building

is a large one, and the question of the large balance required will need consideration before a reply can be expected from the Commander-in-Chief and the Admiralty.

4.

When the Admiralty communicated these conditions

they were of course unaware of the progress made in the

negotiations regarding the Canteen and that final proposals

had been made by the Hongkong Government and forwarded for

acceptance.

5.

I have the honour to request that Your Excellency

will furnish me with your views on the Admiralty proposals.

I have the honour to be,

Your Excellency's obedient servant,

sd. R. HILL

REAR-ADMIRAL

His Excellency the Governor,

HONG KONG.
