With reference to Your Excellency's letter C.R.C.C.NO.X/1(A) of May last, I have the honour to state that this Government is prepared, subject to the approval of the Secretary of State for the Colonies, to recommend to the Legislative Council the payment of the sum of £71,000 for the evacuation of the magazine and to enable the War Department to build new magazines elsewhere, on the following conditions - (a) The sum of $710,000 shall be paid by the Government
by four equal half yearly instalments, the first instalment to be paid at the expiration of six
months from the conclusion of the agreement for
evacuation.
(b) Evacuation to be completed on the day on which the
final instalment is paid.
(c) When the final instalment is paid the War Department
will transfer to the Colonial Government the area
coloured red and yellow on the enclosed plan.
If you are prepared to recommend this proposal for the favourable consideration of the War Office, I will submit them to the Secretary of State for the Colonies.
