I have the honour to transmit, without its
enclosure, a copy of a letter which we have received
from the Colonial Secretary, Hong Kong, regarding the
recruitment of eight European Constables and to enquire
whether the Secretary of State approves of our
proceeding with the selection and engagement of
suitable candidates.
The letter of the 25th October, 1935, to
which reference is made, formed an enclosure to our
letter M/3990 addressed to you on the 9th November
last.

Gentlemen,
With reference to my letter No.4126/1927
of the 25th October, 1935, on the subject of
recruitment of Police Constables for this Colony, I am
directed to inform you that a further recruitment of
eight European constables is required, and to request
that you will make arrangements in sufficient time
to enable the selected candidates to arrive in Hong
Kong before Christmas this year.
2.
In this connection I enclose a list containing
the names and addresses of six applicants who have been
recommended to the Inspector General of Police.
It is requested that, if you see no objection,
consideration may be given to these candidates.
