Force, Far East, Squadron-Leader C.R. Keary, Officer Commanding Royal Air Force Station, Kai Tak, and Major Glynn Evans, Principal Works Buildings Officer, Kai Tak, it was unanimously agreed that it was desirable that this area should be filled up and formed to aerodrome level as soon as possible in order to

provide a larger area north and south.

The question of finance was not discussed at the

Conference, but as the area will be for the joint use of civil

and Royal Air Force aviation, and none of it for the exclusive

use of either, it would seem only equitable that the cost of the necessary work should be divided equally between this Goverment and the Air Ministry.

4.

The total cost of the work is now estimated at $300,000

made up as follows :-

Resumptions

$ 97,000

Filling in

$138,000

Surfacing the new Sai Kung Road

$ 65,000

$300,000

5.

As regards the last item the diversion of the Sai Kung Road is an integral part of the complete scheme, as the existing road divides the area now under discussion from the remainder of the aerodrome.

I will communicate with you further as soon as the exact expenditure figures are available. Meanwhile I should be glad if the matter of reimbursement of half the cost might be taken up with the Air Ministry.

6.

A copy of this despatch is being forwarded to the Officer Commanding Royal Air Force Station, Kai Tak.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient, humble servant,

Wo.d. Sou short

Officer Administering the Goverment.
