Enclosure No.3.
Commodore's Office,
Hong Kong,
18th April, 1935.
39
Your Excellency,
In accordance with the request of the Secretary
of State for the Colonies, transmitted in your letter of the 13th
March, 1935, No.2981/26, I have the honour to forward for Your
Excellency's information and communication to the Secretary of
State the following report on the progress and efficiency of the
Hong Kong Naval Volunteer Force. For the purposes of this report
the Force is assumed to have commenced activities on the 1st
January 1934, and the period under review concludes on 31st March
1935. A period of fifteen months is thus covered.
Historical.
2.
Your Excellency has already been furnished by the Executive Officers of the Force (the Commanding Officer being on leave) with a report which deals very suitably with the history of the Force since its inception. Any further account here would be superfluous, and I request that the Executive Officers' report
may be forwarded to the Secretary of State with this letter.
Strength.
3.
The accompanying table shows the strength of the
Force in January 1934, March 1934 and on the 31st March 1935.
Considering the comparatively recent formation of the Force, the
numbers are very satisfactory. More Seaman ratings are required,
and there is an urgent need for Communications Branch ratings. It is not intended to enter any engine-room ratings as these,
requiring no special training, can be obtained at short notice
in emergency.
His Excellency
Sir William Peel, K.C.M.G., K.B.E.,
Governor, etc.,
HONG KONG.
