In February 1934 ten pupil pilots were selected from various units of the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps and Flying Training

To begin with there was a good deal of wastage due to
unsuitability for flying, and it was not until the beginning of
August that the vacancies created by the above wastage were
satisfactorily filled.

These pupils continued their training up to the end of the
year 1934 and all obtained a high standard of flying skill with the
exception of D. Marshall, who proceed on Home leave about September,
and G.R.M. Ricketts whoso attendance due to business reasons was
some what limited.
All volunteer pilots (with the exception of the above
mentioned) obtained their "A" Licence.
At the meeting of the Air Arm Committee held in November 1934, it was further decided that all prosent and future Air Arm pilots
would have to attain a medical standard equivalent to the British
"B" Licence medical requirements. An age limit for Air Arm pilots
was also introduced, and as a result of the above, the under –
mentioned pilots were removed from the active flying list:-
Dr. J.C. Macgown
