Notes on 1936 Estimates.

HONG KONG.

BUILDINGS.

1.-Queen Mary Hospital, $1,600,000. The contract time for the com- pletion of the main hospital block is the end of January, 1937. The sum allowed for in the Estimates is for the completion of this block less the final payment of retention money, the erection of Medical Officers quarters and the completion of the block for Nursing Sisters. Payments which will fall due in 1937 will be in the nature of final bills and retention money in these contracts.

2. Upper Levels Police Station, $10,000. It is expected to complete this Police station towards the end of 1935. The work in 1936 will consist of finishing off and payment of retention money.

3.-Wanchai Market, $90,000.-The site for this market is below the Naval Hospital and fronting on the junction of Queen's Road East and Wan- chai Road. The building will be two storeys in height with a base- ment under about half of the area. Accommodation will be provided for the caretaker and the market itself will house 30 fish, 22 meat, 18 vegetable and 15 poultry stalls. The building will be completed during the year.

4.-Trade School, Wood Road, Wanchai, $100,000.-The school is to be sited on Wood Road and foot of Morrison Hill. The building will be of brick, 3 storeys in height and will provide accommodation for the training of young Chinese in the building trades, and mechanical and electrical engineering. There will be workshops, trade offices and lec- ture rooms. The building will be completed during the year.

5.-Central Market Improvements, $30,000.-These improvements consist of the relaying of the drainage system to the western half of this market, the installation of stalls to this half on the ground floor only and the interior flood lighting of the whole of the ground floor.

GENERAL WORKS.

6.-Roads, $35,000.-This sum is required to provide for the road surfac- ing, kerbing, channelling and footpaths of new roads as new buildings are erected or realignments of streets take place.

7. Drainage (a) Training Nullahs, $5,000.-This sum is required to meet the cost of training stream courses where this is necessary as a result of new development.

(b) Miscellaneous Drainage Works, $30,000.-Required to meet the cost of providing sewers and storm water drains. for houses in newly developed areas.

9.--Miscellaneous, $20,000.—This vote is available for all Departments and provides funds for small works which arise during the year but are considered too small for a separate vote.
