Enclosure 1 in Canton despatch to Peking No.117 of 13th August, 1935.

H. B. M. Consul, Canton, presents his compliments

to the Inspector-General of Police, Hong Kong, and has

the honour to inform him that a British Indian called

Beneres Khan has applied for permission to work in Hong

Kong.

Benares Khan was employed as a night watchman

by the R. A. S. C. in Hong Kong from October 1st 1933

till January 16th 1935, and has a testimonial from the

Officer in Charge of transport in Hong Kong.

He has also deposited $100 in this office as

guarantee in case he gets stranded and has produced a

letter from Firdos Khan of No. 35, Queen's Road, East,

Hong Kong, guaranteeing him employment in the Colony.

Benares Khan has not the necessary documentary

evidence for a full passport to be granted him but

H.M. Consul would be glad to know if there is any

objection to granting him an emergency certificate valid

for Hong Kong to enable him to go and earn his living

there.

British Consulate-General,

Canton.

18th June, 1935.
