I understand from Sir Francis Goodenough that he has very kindly written to you asking you to grant me an interview. Of course I fully appreciate that your time must be very much taken up with the coming Election, but when the Election is over and you are freer, I should much appreciate an opportunity of putting before you personally some information regarding The British Empire & China Trade Fair which is to be held in Hongkong at the end of 1936.
Its aims are, the expansion of British trade in China and the promotion of goodwill and better understanding with our Chinese friends. A British section of the "Friends of China Committee is being formed in this Country, and, as you know, Sir Francis Goodenough has kindly consented to act as Honorary Vice-President. Lord Sempill has also very kindly accepted to join this Committee, and so has the Earl of Derby.
May I ask whether you will be so very good as to grant me an interview and, if so, when it will be convenient for you to receive me?
