Body elongate, fusiform. Head pointed. Eve large, advanced, high. Mouth cleft extending on sides of snout, but not to orbit. Upper lip not especially thick. Front edge of mandible sharp. Small uniserial teeth above, Lateral line not sometimes also on palate and mandible. Scales small. distinct. Vertical fins more or less scaly. Spinous dorsal postmedian in body without caudal. Soft dorsal and anal opposite. Caudal large, deeply emarginate. Pectoral long, not reaching spinous dorsal. Ventral inserted below middle of pectoral.
