The Hong Kong Government.
Regulations made by the Governor-in-Council under Section 3(2) of the Electricity Supply Ordinance,1911, Ordinance No.18 of 1911 on the 11th day of June, 1930.
We have the honour to inform you that we have discussed
Clause 17 of the above Regulations with Mr. L.H. King of the
Hong Kong Public Works Department, who is at present home on
leave, with a view to ascertaining whether it would be possible
that special dispensation might be granted which would enable
certa in Clients of ours, The China Light & Power Co. Ltd., to
instal and operate a piece of apparatus known as an Arc
Suppression Coil, otherwise known as the Petersen Coil, on
their 22,000 Volt system at Beacon Hill Substation.
The purpose of the coil is to reduce disturbances due to
atmospherics and other causes to a minimum and to improve the
continuity of service, but the installation and most efficient
method of operation of the apparatus contravenes Regulation
No.17.
We would inform you that the Commissioners in this
country have granted permission for similar apparatus to be
experimentally installed in this country where its installation
and use also contravenes an existing Regulation, which is identical with Regulation No.17 of Ordinance No.18 of 1911.
We would further inform you that we understand from
Mr. King that he is favourably disposed towards the granting
