5.
Sir,
I have the honour to refer to my despatch No.387
of 19th June, 1935, on the subject of the works to be construct- ed from the Hong Kong Dollar Loan and to inform you that in
accordance with the report (copy enclosed) of Mr. A. T. Coode on his recent inspection of the Vehicular Ferry piers, it is
considered necessary to construct two new caissons, one at the end of the East arm of Jubilee Street pier and the other at
the end of the West arm of the Jordan Road pier and certain other works costing in all $65,000.

piers in the schedule of loan works annexed to the Estimates
for 1935 but there has been under-expenditure in previous
years and on the original estimate of $1,900,000 there is available the sum of $48,000. Subject to your approval of the resolution on this work forwarded in my despatch under 5 reference this balance will be increased to $78,000 which
will cover the works now proposed and leave a margin for contingencies, so that it will only be necessary to obtain
the approval of the Legislature for the increase of the
allotment for 1935 from $25,000 as scheduled to $78,000.
3. As the further strengthening of these piers is
an urgent matter I would request your authority by telegraph to put the work in hand on the understanding that expenditure
