We may mention that we have asked the English Assayers

to take the greatest care in making these assays, and their world

established reputation combined with the fact that their assays

were made independently and subsequently agreed between them -

places their results beyond all doubt. It is clear, therefore,

that the assay reported from Hongkong is incorrect, and the fact

that it gives a figure which is just above the limit fixed for

delivery on the London Metal Exchange, whereas the tin in fact is

not of such quality, creates an unfortunate impression.
